Samuel Houston
Sam Houston was born in Virginia, 1793. Almost all his young life was spent in the Tennessee mountains were his met the Cherokee Indians. He was fantastic in the military and won the favor of all who surround him. He practiced in Lebonon and later ran for office. He was elected to U.S. Congress. He was chosen Governor of Tennessee. Houston later retired from Tennessee Politics to visit his friends the Cherokee. He later took some friends and moved to Texas. He became a representative for Nacogdoches and attended the Convention of 1833. He became general of the military section west of Trinity in 1835. He attended the Convention at Washington an the Brazos which declare Texas independence from Mexico. He controlled the Texan army after the tragedies at Goliad and Presidio San Antonio de Valero. He was president of the Republic of Texas and later a part of the Congress of the Republic. He was re-elected to the President. He was voted senator of Texas from the Union. He became Governor of State and did not agree with Texas' exit from the Union and because of this he was removed from the office. He moved back to Huntsville and died there in 1863.
